Speed Study

You may have noticed an electronic sign on Main Street monitoring the speed of vehicles. These signs have been deployed periodically as a result of the Safety & Traffic committee's efforts working with the police to understand the amount of traffic in Galesville and to address speeding down this residential street and the results are surprising. As you can see from the two weeks of data, from the last week of September 2025 and the first week of August 2025, there is a large volume of with some 16,000 vehicles coming into Galesville every week! And while the majority of vehicles respect the speed limit, over 25% of vehicles exceed it, including some over 60 mph! That is close to 4,300 vehicles speeding down our main street every week, creating potentially dangerous conditions.

We'll continue our efforts to work with the police to review ways to limit excessive speeding and improve the safety of our community.
